How does a free bet converter work?
You place the free bet on one side at a long price, then back the other side with cash at a second book. One of the two wins whatever happens, so you lock in a guaranteed return instead of a coin flip.
How much is a free bet actually worth?
A free bet returns the profit but not the stake, so a $100 free bet is worth less than $100. A good conversion keeps roughly 70% or more of the face value as cash. The exact number depends on the price you hedge at.
Why bet the free bet on the longer price?
A free bet only pays the winnings, so the longer the price, the more it returns when it lands. Hedging the short side with cash then costs you less, which leaves more of the face value in your pocket.
